Super excited about this team for one reason and one reason only—Norm Chow. The legend of offense has taken his talents overseas and looks to take the league by storm. The former offensive coordinator of the USC glory days and old Hawaii head coach will look to put up a bunch of points with his Guards out of Switzerland.
QB – Collin Hill – This guy played major D-I ball starting at Colorado State before moving onto South Carolina in the SEC. He’s a big guy with a good arm, who will look to bring SEC toughness to a new team and new league. The Gamecocks will be cookin in the ELF.
RB- Silas Nacita – Another huge recruit for the new team. An RB out of the Big 12, this Baylor Bear had once been a Cinderella story. He was a homeless walk-on at Baylor and played well for them, before he was suspended indefinitely for accepting housing and foods. That aside, he has experience at the top level and can be an absolute weapon for the Guards. After three years off he came back last year and put 376 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2 games in the Austrian Football League.
WR- This is a big question mark for this team. They have only one player who played in the ELF before this year, Anton Jallai, who played for the Leipzig Kings last year. Jallai should lead the team as a 6’2 reciever with experience playing at IMG academy in America, one of the best high school programs in the country. Last year, he was the offensive rookie of the year in the ELF, so look for him to be the main target on this team. Tight ends are rather young on this team and will be kind of a filler. Igor Maslanka did play for the dragons last year, but as I type, I’m starting to think they don’t use the tight end all that much in this league.
O-Line – They have Gabriel Rodriguez from the Barcelona Dragons, a top offense last year. They also have Niels Meier, a Swiss product who played D2 football at Washburn University. The rest of the team is made up of German League players. Interesting group to watch.
D-Line – They signed a huge addition on their defensive line from the Hamburg Sea Devils in Tim Hanni. Hanni was a first team all-star last year and is an absolute disruptor. He had 6.5 sacks and 14.5 TFL, both top 20 in the league. They also signed Michael Kimpiabi from the Stuttgart Surge, so they have great experience for a run stopping front.
LB – The Linebackers are led by JR Tavai, a former CFL player who played at USC. He was on the practice squad for the Titans and should be the true leader of the backers. They also have Jonathan Falk who played in America for 10 years for various organizations.
DB – They have another A-import in the defensive backfield with Ken Hike, who played for Tuskegee in America. They also have Shaska Perron, who played for the worst team in the league, Stuttgart Surge last year, so might not be the best. At safety, they will start former Thunder player Maceo Beard, who was invited to the CFL combine. Good bunch in the back. Hopefully not Swiss cheese as a unit.
I like this team after breaking it down. I love their coach, QB, RB, and D-line. If they can bring Anton Jallai to a new level this team can work on offense. On defense, I worry about them at Linebacker, but I really think they will be a good run-stopping team and that should take some pressure off their Linebackers.
