Trevor Lawrence could be out for the rest of the season and it is time to have a serious conversation about Lawrence being one of the biggest busts in history. Now, I realize that statement might seem overly critical but when we remember how Lawrence was sold to us as a prospect, it might be accurate. An ad by CBS Sports from 2021 had Trevor Lawrence as the best NFL prospect of the last 40 years and numerous other sources claimed similar things.

For reference, Matt Schaub, who epitomized mediocrity in the early aughts, had these stats in his first four years as a full time starting QB: 77 TD’s, 46 INT’s, 14,424 yards, and one pro bowl.
Trevor Lawrence in his first four years: 69 Td’s, 45 INT’s, 13,744 yards and one pro bowl. Schaub went 25-29 W-L in his first four years, Lawrence is 22-37.
Schaub was never a top prospect, never even considered a great quarterback, yet he outplayed Lawrence in his first four years in almost every major category. Trevor did have that magnificent comeback in the playoffs against the Chargers, but other than that has there been anything special about him? Have we seen any reason to continuously trust this guy to lead the Jags to the promised land?

One of my biggest problems with Lawrence was that he was hailed as this guy who never lost (lost two games in college and won 41 straight in high school) and now that’s all he does. You can’t blame him all for that because the defense has been awful all year, but he’s had talented players around him with Ridley, Etienne, Engram, Brian Thomas, yet he continues to put up stats in the middle of the pack. Like many, I was on board for Lawrence to be the best quarterback I would ever see, but unless he picks it up in a major way next year, we all need to have a real talk about Trevor Lawrence being a bust. It isn’t the prototypical bust of a Jamarcus Russel because Lawrence will play for the next 10 years for some team, but if you’re supposed to be the second coming of Jesus as a quarterback and you do what he is doing, I’m sorry, you are a bust. I’m not saying I’m completely off the T Law train, but my stop is coming up really quick.
