In one of the first games of the preseason, we have the Houston Texans vs New England patriots. This is going to be a tight one in my mind, which will come down to the play of Bailey Zappe. Mac Jones is unlikely to start, and Zappe will have full control of the offense at least for the first quarter. On the other side of the ball, CJ Stroud will see his first action in the NFL. I favor experience in this battle and will give the edge to Zappe at least to start. So, if you want to take Patriots first half, I wouldn’t bat an eye, but then we go into the second half and I think it is a much different story. The Patriots have Trace McSorley and Malik Cunningham as their 2nd and third stringers on the night, whereas the Texans have Davis Mills and Case Keenum. I mean, the difference there is glaring. I guess we’ll see what Cunningham could do, but the book is out on McSorley and he isn’t that great. Mills and Keenum have both been bona fide starters in this league and want to prove that they still have something. It would be amazing if the Texans are underdogs at half, because then you can jump all over this one for the second half. I tend to lean on the worse overall teams in preseason games anyway, but the Qb situation makes me like the Texans even more.
